Today I attended my first french lesson at Migros language school, located in Rue du Prince. It's just off Lake Geneva on one of the side streets.
L'Ecole-club Migros is well known for offering value for money courses, either intensive or semi-intensive.
There are three different levels you can take. The beginner starts at A1, and progresses through A2, B1, B2, C1, with C2 being the highest.
I'm studying an intensive course (Monday to Friday) in A2. The classes start at 8.50am until 12.40pm, with a 20 minute break. There are nine students in my class and they have already learnt the present tense, past tense (imperfect and perfect), future tense, as well as a variety of vocabulary and grammar. The teacher is now taking us through the present subjective.
Despite being four hours, the class goes at a nice pace and is really varied with a mixture of speaking, listening and reading. Today we read an extract from a French children's book, and the teacher encouraged us to do this in our free time too. Books she recommended include Le Petit Nicolas, Astérix et Obélix and Les Aventures de Tintin.
A nice touch to finish off the class is that one student will give a short presentation about their home country- a little reminiscent of a French oral.
A month's intensive course will set you back CHF 891, with CHF 53 for the text book. For more information, go to:
